Rilian
is vice foreign minister of the Earth Sphere United Nations, kidnapped by
Marymaya in her attempt to rule the universe. Both she and Marymaya come
with the serpent. Before I watched the OVA I didn't really want the figures
but this chick at uni said she'd like one when I took the instructions to
get translated, so I made Rilian for her. These figures are made of some
vinyl type stuff and are quite hard to sand file etc. but I gotta make it
cos I promised. The things I do... This is the largest figure I've ever
painted, I've only done wargamming figures and 1/35 stuff. There where some
"wrinkles" which weren't part of the molding, which took a fair bit of work
and gap filling super glue to fix. Once this was done I gave it a spray
with the white knight which showed up more problems which had to be fixed.
Once everything was to my satisfaction I started painting. First I did the
basic suit, face and shoes then applied some washes. While doing this I
discovered that you can use tamiya thinners (alcohol) to blend paint after
it's dry, a bit like I've heard you can do to oil paints, if anyone has
any experience with oils tell me if it looks comparable for a first attempt
(scale is approx. 1/20th). With these areas painted I did the buttons and
painted on the eyes. The eyes are rather complicated: first, black round
the edges, then white, then black circles in the middles then blue in the
middle of them then white highlights in the blue circles. Finally I attached
the ponytail and based the model. The base is a 50c coin with a hole to
take a pin that goes into the foot of the figure.
